One Love Foundation Comes to ESJ
February 7, 2019
The One Love Foundation is an organization which helps educate young people about healthy versus unhealthy relationships. The seniors and juniors at Episcopal took part in viewing the movie Escalation which tells the story of abused college student, Yeardley Love.
Love, a senior at the University of Virginia, was murdered by her ex-boyfriend in 2010. The movie Escalation helps illustrate to others what happened to her, in an effort to show the signs of an unhealthy relationship.
As part of the workshop, after viewing the movie, students separated into groups, often by advisory, and discussed what we saw and how we felt. For many, it was a very difficult film to watch, and being able to talk through feelings was a welcomed relief.
The workshop was intended to help us pick up abusive signs in a relationship as we move on with our lives and head off to college. It gives us an understanding of what to do, whether we are in one of those situations or if we are witnessing one.
