Recently, I had the opportunity to interview Ms. Marion Zeiner. She has been working at Episcopal for 36 years, and this is her last year teaching before she retires. She is the Honors Environmental Science teacher and also the Honors Chemistry teacher. She, along with Ms. Meg Wickenden, run the Ninth Grade Orientation Adventure (9GOA).
What has been your favorite part of teaching throughout your years?
I have so many favorite parts, I can hardly name all of them. When I think about it, I think right at the top of the list is going to a major university, such as Berkley, Harvard MIT and bringing my students with me and going into a lab where my past students are working. I feel as though it demonstrates a strong scientific background.
How long have you been working at Episcopal?
36 years.
What is your favorite part of 9GOA?
The campfires where the students are so grateful to be there you can just see it on their faces, and when I give them opportunities to share what they’re thankful for, and the responses are so genuine and meaningful. That makes me realize that the trip itself is changing lives.
What is your favorite part of the community here at Episcopal?
Growth. The student body, as well as the addition of new buildings, and through what I’ve seen, I see more students come in who are more excited about learning and the content and are attentive to instructions.
How has Episcopal benefited your life from your time being here?
I think that the opportunity to teach here has been very meaningful for me and my family. I have family members who have gone here, and Mr. Zeiner has worked here. It has been an opportunity to connect my life with my school.
Are you ready to start your new chapter in your life?
I don’t know. I love being here, so I’m not sure. I feel like it’s going to be a challenging transition.
Ms. Zeiner, we are going to miss you!
