My Dad and I went to Hawkers to see if it is worth the hype – the short answer is, yes! Between the ambiance, service and, of course, delicious food. My Dad and I had a great time at Hawkers Asian Street Food in the 5-Points district.
To begin, when my dad and I entered Hawkers, the unique ambiance struck me right away. The signs and special lighting on the walls prompted me to take in the restaurant as a whole. The open-kitchen aspect created a comforting surrounding in the place.
Let’s start with one of the most crucial parts of a meal: the appetizers. The appetizer can give you an idea of what to expect when the main dish comes out. My dad and I ordered the roti canai, the soup dumplings, and the bulgogi steak to begin with. Honestly, all of them were amazing.
My dad, John Naugle, said, “The platters the appetizers came out on were very unique and different from most dining experiences.”
The roti has a bit of a spicy kick to it, but the flaky bread balances it out. The soup dumplings have a unique semi-sweet taste to them, so you’re getting the best of both worlds. The bulgogi steak was nothing short of delicious and was my dad’s favorite. As a whole, my dad and I rated the appetizers a 10/10.
Moving on to the main course, my dad and I were very pleased. I ordered the Hong Kong wonton noodle soup, and it was rather delectable. They had a perfect broth-to-noodles ratio, and the wontons were the ‘cherry on top.’
For dinner, my dad ordered the curry duck noodles, and he thought it was savory, and he said, “They added the perfect amount of duck.”
Overall my dad and I rated the entrees an 8.5/10.
Lastly, let’s review one of the most paramount parts of dining out, the service. Our waitress was very helpful and gave my dad and me some great recommendations. Hawker’s allows their employees to wear any type of T-shirt they want as long as it is black, which makes the guests feel comfortable with the waiters. All of our food was brought out timely, hot and plated uniquely.
Overall, Hawker’s was a 9/10 experience, and my dad and I will definitely be going again!
