The new dress code policy at Episcopal is in effect and as a student I’d say we are pleased with the adjustments. In previous years, students had to have their uniform polo tucked, but due to the new dress code, students may now wear their shirts untucked. The adjustments made have enforced students to become more aware of what they decide to put on for their day of school, while also leaving some space for students to be a little more comfortable throughout the school year.
Episcopal’s uniform policy helps students maintain professionalism and comfort, and around this time last year, we had two major updates to it beginning with polos no longer needing to be tucked. This is my favorite adjustment of all because we no longer have to worry about being dress-coded for having our shirts untucked during the school day. Though we can no longer wear the front or back of the chapel shirts out, they must remain fully tucked in during the chapel days, creating a balance between formal wear and comfort. Also, at one point in time where temperatures were high, the deans decided to allow students to wear khaki shorts, proving the intent of our dress code isn’t to just restrict students but guide in appropriate formal wear.
I believe our uniform guideline is a simple step to follow, as we all own and have the same exact uniforms except for on Chapel days where boys have to wear a tie or bow tie and on spirit dress days where everyone wears athletic wear that is associated with the school.
Overall, the dress code allows mornings to be less stressful and was adapted to students due to reasonable requests still continuing to conduct tradition, like the tradition of seniors only being allowed to wear their burgundy and white striped long sleeves. The new adjustments are a step forward for Episcopal to keep and even boost community satisfaction with the willingness to consider and accept feedback and adapt to it will help us grow together.
