The Jacksonville Jaguars kicked off the 2023 NFL season with high hopes. After a challenging couple of years, the team had undergone significant personnel changes, including acquiring several promising rookies and free agents. One notable free agent the Jaguars signed this offseason was wide receiver, Calvin Ridley.
The Jaguars first game of the 2023 season was an away game against the Indianapolis Colts, where they won 31-21. Trevor Lawrence had 241 passing yards with two touchdowns and an interception. Ridley had an outstanding first game with eight receptions, 101 yards, and a touchdown.
The Jaguar’s offense looks like a severe threat to defenses this year, led by a strong wide receiver core of Ridley, Christian Kirk, and Zay Jones, also paired with tight end Evan Engram and running back Travis Etteine.
Although the offense is very skilled, the Jaguar’s defense is making a case that they are more talented. The defense forced three turnovers, including two fumbles, one interception, and four sacks. They also held the Colts 3rd down efficiency to 2-12.
The Jaguars have the potential to make a massive run in the playoffs this year, rekindling the excitement of their fan base and marking the beginning of a new era for the franchise. As the season progresses, it will be essential for the Jaguars to build on their strengths and address areas of improvement.
