Based on a true story, and advertised as both a drama and a comedy, The Upside tells the story of a wealthy, old man named Phillip, who lives in New York City. The plot focuses around his struggles with being paralyzed from the neck down and his search for a caretaker.

Kevin Hart swoops in and plays the character Dell, whom Phillip hires to take care of him. Dell is looking for a job as a parolee, to make money for his son and his ex. Luckily for him, this job falls right in his hands. However, he has no experience taking care of someone… at all.

The comedy falls into place as Dell is struggling to help this man who is a quadriplegic. The struggles they face soon develop into a friendship like no other. Witnessing their ups and their downs and the bond that is formed is truly inspiring.

The movie does a great job illustrating that just because a person may be disabled, this does not mean that he/she is any different than someone else. It is such a heartwarming story. This is one of the more interesting movies I have seen in awhile, and I definitely recommend it to everyone, no matter the age of the audience member.
