The genius behind the best-selling luxury brand in America for the last 50 years passed away on February 19, 2019 in Paris; the city that adored him. Karl Lagerfeld was a true king in the fashion industry, titled as the Creative Director of Chanel since 1983 and Fendi since 1965.

Lagerfeld was not only a designer but a photographer, author and entrepreneur. Karl has dressed the currently highest paid models in the world such as Kendall Jenner, Cara Delevingne and Lily Rose Depp. He created many relationships with the biggest influences in the fashion industry, like Rihanna, Kim Kardashian and Princess Caroline of Morocco. To say Karl will be missed is an understatement, but the world of fashion has no doubts that his dream will live on forever.

What does this mean for Chanel and Fendi though? Who will step up in Lagerfeld’s position? The website Quartzy recently reported, “Virginie Viard will serve as Chanel’s new creative director. It’s a logical choice, even if Viard’s name isn’t well-known outside fashion. There’s probably nobody better suited to keeping Chanel on its current course.” Will this drastically change Chanel’s elegant style or will Viard skyrocket the brand even higher than Lagerfeld?
