Homecoming Week gives students a chance to have fun and to take their mind off from all the stressful schoolwork. It also creates anticipation for the big dance on Saturday.
Although some students don’t attend the dances, and focus their energy on the grade pictures and parties, the Harden Hall was still crowded with dancing students, as soon as the doors opened.
The room hosted a caricature artist, a photobooth and a rich stand of delicious french pastries. Keala Burch ‘29 especially loved the rich macarons and said, “I have never been to France, but it felt like I was there on Saturday.”
The dance started around 6:30, but the room started to fill later in the night because of the grade pictures that still hadn’t ended.
The first students to arrive were freshmen girls, who started to gather on the dance floor and quickly pulled everybody around them later in the night.
Students danced all night to the songs selected by Student Government, eventually also creating a mosh pit with Tanya Burgess in the middle.
The mosh pit led to great havoc. Some people lost shoes in the mosh pit or broke them, while others got stepped on and hurt. Ramona Carter ‘28 admits that “in the mosh pit, some guy stepped on my foot incredibly hard, with dress shoes on. My foot hurt for the rest of the night and continued to hurt for the following week as well.”
She hopes that a new rule be implemented, that everybody dancing in the moshpit must take their shoes off, because even if she had close toed shoes on, it would have still hurt.
Overall everybody had an amazing night, having fun with friends and their dates.
Thank you to the Student Government for setting up this amazing dance and an extra special thank you to the teachers for making sure everybody was safe!
