Artificial Intelligence (AI), specifically Chat GPT, has rapidly evolved into a dependant for students in high school. Originally starting out as something just used for image searching or creative purposes, it has quickly become a source that is routinely used for cheating, shortcuts in work or even a search engine.
People have deviated from the usual Google search to a quicker, more efficient way of researching. AI has become so overused it is now automatically downloaded on devices, giving students easier access. While being beneficial in some aspects, overall AI has been used for unintended purposes making it unhealthy.
The overuse of AI overtime has quickly skyrocketed, as it is not uncommon to hear it come up in everyday conversation. The main use of AI in earlier years of education was found in grammar websites, like the popular Grammarly that seemed to start it all. This evolved as time went on, as other apps began to add AI elements, for example photo creation in Canva, and many others.
It has become the first thing you see when looking something up on Google, allowing for easier access. Overall, AI is becoming harmful as kids are not focusing on their own learning, often due to pressure from schools by grades. The original use of photo editing, grammar and simple checking for essays worked well, and I believe it has been taken advantage of recently.
