If phones suddenly disappeared for a week, the world would feel completely different. At first, there would probably be confusion and panic. People would not be able to text, call, or check their social media.
It would feel like everything just stopped, especially for people who rely on their phones for almost everything.
The first few days would be the hardest. Everyone would keep reaching for their phones out of habit only to realize they are gone.
Plans would be harder to make and all group chats would be dead.
My friend, Cora Anderson ‘27, laughed at me and said, “You wouldn’t survive a day without your phone”. A lot of people would actually probably agree with her.
But, after a while, things would start to change. Without phones, people would have to talk face to face a lot more often.
Friends might hang out in person, instead of just texting, and people would spend more time outside or focusing on school more.
My friend Lily Hardaker ‘27 said, “Sometimes not having your phone can actually be peaceful,” and a week without phones might prove that.
By the end of the week, people might realize that life without phones is not as bad as it seems. It would still be difficult, especially for communication, but it could also be a nice break.
A week without phones might remind everyone that there’s more to life than screens.
